On this snowy Monday morning, with a tea in hand, I'm headed to the University of Ottawa for my education classes. In my tech class, my fellow student teachers ran a workshop introducing a handful of e-book resources to use in the classroom.
I really enjoyed exploring online read alouds. Specifically the website called Mighty Books. This website is an interactive learning tool that provides a variety of animated stories, songs, comic books and has a section for parents and teachers. There are many pros when using e-books in the classroom. E-books are connecting students to new technology and giving teachers a more cost effective way to incorporate literacy into their daily lessons. They can also have multi-media tie ins as students in this generation speak such a technological language. E-books incorporate text narration, word highlighting, pronunciation, animations and other multimedia tie ins that support the students conceptual understanding what is being taught. With the variety of e-book resources available for students it allows them to practice their literacy skills independently which can improve their reading and also increase motivation.
